Have you ever noticed that no matter how many great spaces for entertaining you plan for, everyone still tends to gather in the kitchen during holidays and get-togethers?
Kitchens are one of the most commonly remodeled areas of the home and probably the one space that people tend to put the most thought into planning.
Many kitchen trends come and go but here are a few that we’ve noticed have some serious staying power!
Two-tone Cabinetry – Combining two different colors of cabinetry can make a smaller kitchen seem more spacious. Whether you are combining two different paint colors, or paint with a contrasting wood hue or stain, integrating two different colors of cabinetry is a great way to add visual interest and style.
Tile/Backsplash to the Ceiling – Backsplash is a great design element that adds texture and helps to pull all the features in your kitchen space together. If you really love your backsplash, why stop at the cabinets? Taking backsplash all the way to the ceiling can make a room feel more finished and focusing solely on an accent wall or section provides an opportunity to create or showcase a focal point.
Lots of Storage – Lack of storage space in the kitchen is a big pet peeve for many. Making the most efficient use of existing space has become a priority when it comes to kitchen design. Not only are today’s kitchen designs incorporating more built-in storage, but there are also some incredibly clever hidden features, making the most of the kitchen island, pullout drawers, racks, and shelving that maximize space in corner cabinets and more.
Neutral Painted Cabinets – Why are neutral kitchen cabinets like winter white, taupe beige & light gray so popular, anyway? Light, neutral cabinets make a kitchen feel spacious and bright, and less closed off than a darker kitchen might. While it may not be true, a light and neutral kitchen can also give the appearance of being cleaner. Plus selecting fixtures and colors to complement a neutral kitchen is easy!
Dining Islands – Kitchen islands have been popular gathering places, but a more recent trend is going beyond just a great workspace and intentionally incorporating space for seating into your island plans. Most any island will work as a dining island as long as there is an overhang that allows you to comfortably tuck chairs in. Beyond just the traditional or extended island, you can also shift the shape of your island to accommodate a scenario that allows guests or family members to see one another and feel more connected while dining.
Island Pendant Lighting – Kitchen pendant lights are an ideal way to make your kitchen your own, infuse personality, and create ambiance. Whether you gravitate toward a bold, modern, minimalistic, or classic option, you can find stunning pendant lighting options to enhance your design and add your own flair.
Open Kitchen & Living Areas – The concept of the functional and open kitchen and living room areas is not new but still wildly popular. The kitchen is no longer considered just a workspace, but part of our daily lives. Incorporating the kitchen food prep areas, a dining area and living space allow guests to relax while still engaging with the hosts. An open concept design also allows parents to keep an eye on younger kids while preparing meals.

With how isolating it can be to stay at home all day, having the freedom of movement and a more spacious house could help us get over it. If I can find a contractor that can remodel our kitchen and living room this way, staying inside all day might not be so bad.
